Practice prompt

Membership Cancellation Request

You need to cancel a paid membership because your circumstances have changed. Write to the organization, explain the reason, request cancellation and ask about any final charges.

A strong response plan

  1. 1Identify the membership
  2. 2State the cancellation request clearly
  3. 3Give a concise reason
  4. 4Ask for the effective date and final billing confirmation

Sample answer

Study the organization, not the script

Dear Membership Team, I am writing to request cancellation of my fitness membership, account number F-28419, because I will be moving to another city at the end of this month. Please cancel the membership effective September 30 and confirm that no further monthly payments will be processed after that date. I understand that my agreement may require notice, so please let me know if any final charge applies or if you need proof of my new address. I have enjoyed using the facility and appreciate the assistance your staff has provided. Please send written confirmation once the cancellation has been completed. Thank you, Jordan Lee
