Current CELPIP Speaking format

The current official CELPIP-General format lists Speaking as a 15-minute computer-delivered component. After a practice task, candidates complete eight scored speaking tasks. Because there is no face-to-face examiner, official CELPIP preparation guidance recommends practicing into a recording device and becoming comfortable hearing your own recorded voice.

Verify the latest format on the official CELPIP-General page and preparation advice on CELPIP's free resources page.

Practice all 8 CELPIP Speaking tasks

Do not train every prompt with one memorized script. Each task asks you to perform a different communication job. Use the task-specific guides below to practice the right structure, tone and type of supporting detail.

Review recordings using the 4 official Speaking dimensions

CELPIP's published performance standards rate Speaking across four dimensions. A useful practice review should therefore go beyond a vague overall impression and identify which dimension is limiting the response.

Content/Coherence

Develop relevant ideas, organize them clearly, and support them with reasons, examples or useful details.

Vocabulary

Use accurate, varied and situation-appropriate words and phrases instead of repeating the prompt.

Listenability

Aim for understandable rhythm, pronunciation and intonation, with controlled grammar and manageable pauses.

Task Fulfillment

Answer the exact prompt completely, use an appropriate tone, stay relevant and make full use of the response time.
