CELPIP to CLB conversion chart
For the commonly used CELPIP levels from 4 through 12, the CELPIP level maps directly to the same-number Canadian Language Benchmark. That means CELPIP 9 is CLB 9, CELPIP 10 is CLB 10, and so on. Lower results have additional official descriptors, so use CELPIP's current table when a reported result is below Level 4.

What does CELPIP 9 mean?
A CELPIP level of 9 in an ability maps to CLB 9 in that ability. CELPIP reports Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking separately, so a result such as L10 / R9 / W8 / S9 does not mean CLB 9 in all four skills — Writing remains CLB 8.
CLB 9 receives a lot of attention in immigration preparation because language points can change at different benchmark levels, but it is not a universal minimum for every Canadian immigration pathway. Use the current IRCC requirements and your complete profile rather than treating CLB 9 as a rule that applies to everyone.

Listening and Reading practice accuracy is useful for measuring improvement, but do not treat a raw score such as 30/38 as a guaranteed official CELPIP level. Official tests can contain unscored test-development material, and MyCELPIP does not reproduce CELPIP's confidential scoring algorithms.
