CELPIP-General and the Duolingo English Test are both computer-based English assessments, but they are used for different purposes. The right choice depends first on whether you need language proof for Canadian immigration or an English result for admission to a school or program.
For Express Entry: IRCC currently lists CELPIP-General, IELTS General Training and PTE Core as approved English tests. The Duolingo English Test is not on that Express Entry list.
For study admission: many institutions use the Duolingo English Test, but admission requirements are set by the institution and program. Always verify the exact requirement on the school’s official website before paying for a test.

If the immigration program you are applying to requires an IRCC-approved language test and accepts CELPIP-General, prepare specifically for CELPIP’s Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking task formats rather than studying a different exam format.
A test can be faster or more convenient and still be the wrong test for your application. Start with the organization that will receive your result, confirm which tests it accepts, and only then compare format, availability, preparation time and cost.
Start with a diagnostic practice test, identify the weakest task types, then use targeted Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking practice before returning to a full mock.
