Staff Cafeteria vs Meal Allowance

Your employer can either renovate the staff cafeteria or give every employee a small monthly meal allowance. Which option should it choose?

A strong response plan

  1. 1State the preferred benefit
  2. 2Explain flexibility or fairness
  3. 3Use a practical example
  4. 4Address why the other option is less useful

Sample answer

Study the organization, not the script

I would prefer a monthly meal allowance for employees. Renovating the cafeteria might improve the workplace, but not everyone eats there or works at times when the cafeteria is open. A meal allowance would be more flexible because employees could use it for lunch near the office, groceries for a packed meal or food during an evening shift. It would also benefit staff who work remotely several days a week and would receive little value from a renovated cafeteria. The company could set a fixed amount so the program remains predictable and fair. A modern cafeteria would look attractive, but a meal allowance gives every employee a benefit they can actually use according to their schedule and dietary needs.
