Original sample answer

I strongly believe cities should invest more money in public transportation. First, reliable transit gives commuters a practical alternative to driving, which can reduce traffic congestion during rush hour. For example, people are much more likely to leave their cars at home if buses and trains arrive frequently and connect directly to major employment areas. Second, better public transportation improves access for students, seniors and workers who cannot afford a vehicle. It can also help local businesses because customers and employees can reach them more easily. For these reasons, strong public transit benefits both individual residents and the entire city.
