CELPIP Speaking Task 4: Restaurant Spill Sample Answer

Use this original example to study structure and task fulfillment, then practise a fresh prompt instead of memorizing the wording.

Practice prompt

Restaurant Spill

A server has just dropped a tray of drinks beside a crowded restaurant table. Predict what will happen next.

A strong response plan

  1. 1Identify what just happened
  2. 2Predict immediate reactions
  3. 3Predict the cleanup or service response
  4. 4Finish with the likely resolution

Sample answer

Study the organization, not the script

The server will probably apologize immediately and ask the customers to move their chairs away from the broken glasses. Another employee may bring towels and a broom so the floor can be cleaned before anyone slips. If any drinks spilled on a customer's clothing, the manager might come over and offer to replace the meal or provide a discount. The people at the table look surprised, but nobody appears injured, so I think the situation will be resolved fairly quickly. After the area is safe, the server will likely bring a new set of drinks.

What to notice

Use evidence from the scene

Predict a sequence rather than one isolated event

Avoid dramatic outcomes unsupported by the picture
