CELPIP Listening Part 2: Daily Life Conversation

CELPIP Listening Part 2 is Listening to a Daily Life Conversation. The current official format contains 5 questions, and the March 2026 CELPIP Listening Pro study pack suggests approximately 5 minutes.

You hear one everyday conversation between two speakers, typically one man and one woman. The recording is roughly 1.5–2 minutes in the official study material. After the recording, questions are presented one at a time, with roughly 30 seconds to hear and answer each question.

Quick strategy: note who the speakers are, their relationship, the main topic, two or three key details, and any change in plan or feeling.

Verify the current format on the official CELPIP-General page and in the 2026 CELPIP Listening Pro Study Pack.

• recognizing attitude or feeling;
• making a simple inference from context.

A four-line note system

Write:

Who: coworkers / friends / customer-staff

Key 2: patio available 6:30
Decision: take 6:30

This gives you enough structure to answer multiple questions without transcribing.

Best answer: C.

Common Part 2 mistakes

Confusing an early preference with the final plan

Conversations may change direction.

Missing relationship clues

Knowing whether speakers are friends, coworkers, or customer/staff can help interpret tone.

Over-noting small details

Record details likely to affect the decision, not every adjective.

Waiting for exact question wording in the audio

Questions often paraphrase what was said.

Practice routine

Practice with one- to two-minute everyday conversations. After one listen, answer:

• Who are the speakers?
• What are they discussing?
• What does each person want?
• What problem appears?
• What do they finally decide?

Then compare your notes with the transcript.
